A key person contributing to the success of this department for over 30 years is Maintenance Team member Cornelio Vega. Only Supervisor Don Ibanez has served longer in Maintenance!
Residents have this to say about moving to a senior living community.
- No more upkeep of a large home!
- No more chores or housekeeping!
- No more maintenance!
Cornelio is one of this senior living Houston longest-serving employees in this senior living Houston community, doing maintenance work at Treemont for over 30 years. Among the many tasks, Cornelio is responsible for “make ready” of apartments for new residents and the painting of common areas and apartments. His duties include responding to work orders to fix resident apartment issues involving: plumbing, air conditioning, garbage disposal or TV issues. All of these tasks are delivered by Cornelio with a warm smile and a desire to please the residents for whom he serves.
“It started as a second job and became a “labor of love,” says Cornelio. “All of the seniors are very nice,” I am 73 years old and don’t plan on quitting anytime soon!”
Cornelio, from Guarro, Mexico and came here for the “American Life.” He has six children and 16 grandchildren. He enjoys landscaping, planting and gardening and spending time at home with his grandchildren. He previously was a cook at San Francisco Steak House.
Executive Director Rodney Brooks says, “Cornelio is a hard working team member and is always smiling. He is willing to jump in and assist fellow team members and residents whenever needed. Cornelio was once called in to remove a rather large opossum from the auditorium and without hesitation he grabbed the animal by the tail and relocated him outside near the wooded area adjacent to Treemont. He simply said "no problem.”
