Senior Living Houston: Welcome Resident Counselor Sam Freeman!

Moving to a retirement community is a significant life change. Listening and understanding the senior’s situation and desires is paramount. That is what distinguishes Resident Counselor Sam Freeman in her current role where she interacts with families and residents to be a resource in their senior living search.Sam resident counselor senior living houston

Sam says, “I like working with seniors because I appreciate being an advocate for the residents I can help at this stage in their life. It’s a really fulfilling experience.

Sam, a Houston native and graduate of Chavez High School, initially started working for a skilled nursing facility as a weekend activities assistant. She was given other opportunities which she happily accepted and excelled at—as a concierge, then central supply, and finally the Admissions Director at Park Manor Skilled Nursing.

“What really attracted me to work for Treemont was that it was quite different from my previous job. However I was completely ready to start a new venture. From the very second I walked in for my first interview I felt welcomed by the staff and residents; the smallest of interactions I had with everyone while waiting in the lobby made my decision that much easier and excited to work here,” says Sam.

In Sam’s leisure time, one of her favorite hobbies at the moment is interior design. “I love everything from taping and floating to finding the perfect art piece to hang above a fire place. In the near future I really want to pursue finding the perfect piece of land and building a home from the ground up with my fiancé,” says Sam. Her pride and joy is her 9-year old son Jupiter who wants to be an engineer for NASA when he grows up. Coincidently Sam’s fiancés name is Sammy, an HVAC technician and a great musician.  They have two rescue dogs they love very much, named Boy - Boy and Greggers. “I’m in a house full of males but love my small family and wouldn’t change it for the world,” says Sam.

“Sam is a big asset to the Treemont Team. Having worked previously with Sam, I’ve been impressed with how she makes a great connection with people and has a passion to find the best solution for seniors,” says Executive Director Rachel Unverzagt. She is always dependable — and some families that she moved in their loved one would call just to ask her how mom and dad were doing.  Sam knew every resident and how they liked things, taking in every detail such as to where they liked their remote control. Sam made sure the Activity Department knew that a particular resident loves to paint. She really loves to get to know the people she moves in.”
