Senior Living Houston: Driver Jessica Hinojosa provides support during COVID-19

Transportation service is often a key reason Treemont residents choose to move to a retirement community. Jessica Hinojosa joined the Treemont Transportation Team two years ago in January to provide additional support to Mark Thomas in providing transportation services for our residents.Jessica Hinojosa_assisted living houston driver

What is the role of our Transportation driving team? Treemont offers scheduled transportation for: (1) doctor’s appointments within a 5-7 mile radius; (2) grocery store and Wal-Mart shopping trips; (3) pharmacy pickups and (4) personal trips such as to the bank. With about 300 residents, residents are asked to call the Front Desk (or leave a message for Mark or Jessica) one week in advance, to reserve a spot on the Treemont van or car. With fewer outside excursions these days, Jessica is also making sure all visitors answer the “coronavirus questionnaire” and get their temperature checked.

When one moves to Treemont, you become part of our Treemont family. This includes many of our long-tenured staff members. Jessica is the daughter of our beloved Receptionist Janie Garcia. She is the youngest of 4 sisters, a NE side Houstonian, and a proud 2014 Wheatley High School graduate. GO WILDCATS! Jessica’s hobbies include anything sports-related, including playing basketball and soccer. She describes herself as a “pet mother” with a couple of cats, one dog who she takes often to the park to fetch, or do anything to keep her busy!

Jessica was previously a driver for Auto Zone, so she is “used to being at a moving pace always!” Jessica continues, “What honestly attracted me to work for Treemont was the huge differences between an auto parts store and seniors. Of course the two are far away from being in the same category. I know how I am as a person. With my personality I knew I would be a great fit, I have A LOT of patience! Truly!”

“I enjoy working for seniors because of the comfort just my presence can bring to them, I can that we Treemont employees can brighten up their day. Treemont is honestly a family, and being here every day for 5 days a week makes this is more like our home also! I have gotten close with a few residents who are just innocent souls, with different backgrounds and age eras. Some give the best advice, they have lived a lot of what I am or will be going through in life, and I have honestly learned so much!”

“I’ve had so many interesting stories working with the seniors, every day is something new! Quite a few residents truly have me laugh until tears roll down my eyes! I don’t think I have only one favorite memory but every day I come to work, my day is made by the energy of these residents that truly fills me up with joy and just a full heart!

Executive Director Rodney Brooks says, “Jessica is a very caring and thoughtful person. Her task can be very stressful at times but she handles it well and is extremely patient like her mother.” We are delighted to have the energy and enthusiasm that Jessica Hinojosa brings to the Treemont team to make life more fun and carefree for our residents.
