Transportation can benefit senior living Houston residents, providing more independence after they turn in their keys. Transportation service is often a key reason Treemont residents choose to move to a retirement community. This independent living in Houston community is fortunate to have two talented and dedicated drivers: Mark Thomas and Tommy Jowell to provide transportation services for our residents. Mark has worked at this retirement communitiy for almost a year and Tommy recently joined the team to provide for this senior living in Houston community's ever-growing number of residents and accommodate requests.
What is the role of our Transportation driving team? This Houston independent living community offers scheduled transportation for: (1) doctor’s appointments within a 5-7 mile radius; (2) grocery store and Wal-Mart shopping trips; and (3) personal trips such as to the bank. With 250 + residents, residents are asked to call the Front Desk (or leave a message for Mark or Tommy) one week in advance, to reserve a spot on the senior living community van or car. Mark also drives the “Lunch Bunch” to their weekly outing at a restaurant of their choice. Special outings are also made on occasion to an Astros game and recently to the set of the Deborah Duncan “Great Day Houston” show. Activities Director Aimee is also looking to book a matinee play and would call on Mark or Tommy’s services.
This assisted living in Houston community is blessed to have so many wonderful employees. We’d like you to know a little more about the individuals who work so hard to make resident’s transportation experience a positive one. Mark Thomas relocated to Houston from Kansas City, Missouri due to his wife’s job. He has 3 sisters and one brother and has a 20 year-old daughter attending the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Mark previously worked as a driver in Kansas City for a company that worked with individuals with developmental disabilities. Mark sought a job where he could continue to help people, in this case seniors. Mark says, “I love working at Treemont and helping the Residents.” I enjoy this retirement home because both the staff and residents are great people to be around.” Feel free to ask Mark about the unusual sites he has observed in outings with independent living residents — such as a car made out of shopping carts and a house made out of beer cans. Mark also loves sports, particularly his Kansas City Royals baseball team.
Tommy Jowell joined the Treemont team most recently. Born in Orange, TX, Tommy lived in Starks, LA until he was 5 and moved to Houston with his family. He has been married for 10 years, and has two sons from a prior marriage, ages 55 and 53. Tommy’s career was in retail management and customer service where he enjoyed helping people. After he retired, Tommy worked for Enterprise car rental for 12 years, 5 of those years as a driver transporting people. He enjoyed the latter and being a fan of the continuum of care concept and residing close to Treemont, Tommy sought out Executive Director Rodney for a position. Tommy enjoys helping people. He says, “I am where I am because I have been blessed by God and I hope that everyone is as happy with where they are because they are blessed by God.”
Now that you know a little more about Mark and Tommy, please make sure you say hello and introduce yourself. To schedule a Transportation outing, please call or email Front Desk Receptionist Mariana Castro at (713) 783-6820 or email her at Mariana@Treemont.com.
