Nursing Homes in Houston: Spotlight on ADON Sheri Brown
Treemont Health Care Center (HCC) is pleased to announce the return of Sheri Brown as its Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON). Employees are the backbone of our communities, making sure that Treemont achieves its primary goal of putting resident care first. We are always delighted when the quality employees are able to return to Treemont after a stint away.
An ADON has the key role of educating employees on how best to work within the scope of State and Federal guidelines governing the Skilled Nursing Facility system so they can achieve the best results for our residents. Sheri also believes it is important for her to advocate for our employees as much as she does for our residents as “Great Employees = Great Care.”
Shari is from Flint, Michigan, home of the sit down strike that led to the development of the UAW union. She is the third eldest of four children, with an older sister and brother and younger sister. Sheri’s mom lives with her, making for some good stories to share. Sheri loves to be outdoors if there’s sunshine. She enjoys working in her flower and vegetable garden and riding her Harley motorcycle! The Michigan winters attracted Sheri to Houston.
Sheri had an interesting route to a nursing career. After graduating from high school, Sheri worked for General Motors on the Assembly line and in Skilled Trades. After getting laid off, she entered Nursing School where she proudly graduated in 1991 from The Hurley School of Nursing in Flint, Michigan. Sheri then started her nursing career in a 500+ bed teaching hospital, then got into Long Term Care and found she loved working with this senior population.. Shari says, “I really like what I do. The mostly geriatric population has so much to offer. They tend to be so appreciative of even the smallest things, quick to give a hug and share stories from their past. The nature of the job guarantees no two days are alike and prohibits boredom.”
On working with seniors, Shari says, I absolutely melt when I see a resident that usually shows little emotion light up when animals visit. Their entire world suddenly becomes brighter, their mood is uplifted their smile is infectious for others..
