New Nursing Home in Houston Activities Director Lends New Talents to Treemont

As Activities Director for Treemont Health Care Center (HCC), Nancy Lyle’s job is multi-faceted. Nancy develops all activities programming for assisted living and skilled nursing residents. Programs are designed to enhance resident’s overall well-being. Nancy’s nursing home in houston activities directormonthly nursing home and assisted living in Houston calendar of events reflects a balance of activities that are reflective of physical, social, sensory stimulation, parties and special events. Nancy also manages the robust HCC volunteer program.

Nancy is a Certified Activities Director with a specialty in activities for residents at different levels of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Nancy also serves as a valued member of the Treemont Interdisciplinary Team, representing the activities and social department as a clinician.  She assesses residents in this area.

Nancy joined the Treemont Team just before Halloween and has already made her mark with excellent programs. On  Veterans Day, for the first time, HCC hosted a Color  Guard and all Veterans received special acknowledgement for their service. Musical groups are popping up throughout the holiday season to bring joy to residents.

Nancy has worked with the elderly for 23 years at memory care, assisted living and CCRC communities. Nancy was attracted to Treemont Health Care Center because of the Administrator and the current management team.  Nancy says that “Treemont Health Care Center has one of the best teams she has had the privilege of working with.” She likes the fact the facility is privately owned and not a huge corporation. She says; “We have a real “home like” atmosphere here.”Nancy loves the senior population, saying, “My vision is to make each resident’s day the very best.  I want each person to feel loved, safe and respected; and of course I want them to laugh often and to smile A LOT.”  Nancy’s favorite story is,

I was giving a lady with dementia some clothes, towels and such to fold (sensory stimulation activity). I gave her two full baskets of clothing and then some other baskets of clothing to fold to several other residents at the table.  We were talking and laughing as we were all folding, I thought for sure we would be busy for at least 45 minutes.  This lovely lady finished hers in less than 15 minutes.  I went “oops”   What do I do now?  I needed something else for her to do.  So I went in the hallway messed up the towels and brought them back in and proclaimed, “I found more clothes to fold!!!!!  The lady said “I just did those clothes!”  She “got me”…..!!!!  We all laughed.  I have so many endearing and special moments to share.  I could cover many more pages.”

Treemont Health Care Center is distinguished by: (1) its therapy program; (2) its caring staff; and (3) its small, intimate environment. If you have a question on activities programming or working with Alzheimer’s and dementia residents, please contact Nancy Lyles at 713-783-4100 or NancyL@TreemontHC.com You are also invited to tour the Health Care Center and attend an activities event with Admissions Director Taylor Miner.
