Spotlight on Houston Nursing Home Director of Nursing Sheree Wade
Leadership is the key ingredient in the success of any operation. Treemont’s Director of Nursing (DON) Sheree Wade, RN is the kind of person you want at the helm. Sheree basically grew up in a nursing home, following in the foot steps of her CNA mom and LVN grandmother. “My mother passed away when I was 12 but her work ethic inspired me to become a nurse. I remember visiting the Nursing Home and residents knew me by name, how great I was doing in school. They were like family. I became a CNA at 17 at that same nursing home and obtained my LVN license at 19,” says Sheree. “I feel like I am doing God’s work, no job is ever too small for me to do. I truly believe that nursing is a calling and it takes a special, compassionate person to dedicate their lives to taking care of others.”
Sheree oversees the nursing care and those staff responsible for providing care. “I educate and find new exciting ways for the staff to be engaged and excited about the work that we do. I work hand in hand with the Administrator to make sure our residents are receiving the best Quality Care and our employees are happy and have a great working environment, says Sheree.
Sheree has 4 children: Desmon 22, Sheriah 15, Arianna 11 and Gregory 2. Sheree moved from her home town of Orange to Houston to be the Wellness Director of a Memory Care Assisted Living Facility. She has been a nurse for 17 years in nursing, hospital and correctional facility settings. She wanted more of a challenge and became the Director of Nursing at a 112 bed SNF, The Pointe, in Webster, with a goal of a MSN in Health Administration. Sheree loves reading and all kinds of music including Korean Pop music, thanks to her oldest daughter.
Sheree’s favorite story about working with seniors sheds light on her individual approach to each resident’s care. “I used to have a resident that due to his disease process had some difficult behaviors. I would pretend I was his supervisor and could not believe he was not coming into work as he was an Engineer. He would quickly get up and agree to have someone shower and dress him so he would not be late to work. The staff thought I had a magic wand but soon learned to follow along with the resident’s journey as I did, and had no more trouble with getting him into the shower. There is a magic wand in all of us — we just have to learn how to use it.”
Treemont Nursing , Rehab and Assisted Living is a key part of Treemont’s continuum of care campus. Administrator Cynthia Lamison and Sheree work closely with Executive Director Rodney Brooks on providing rehab to his independent living residents so they can return home.
