by Jane Zimmerman, Treemont Resident
Lovely lady Barbara Morgan had no doubt in her mind when it came time to retire that she wanted to come to Treemont because she had friends who lived here. Because she is outgoing and had already visited before, being a newbie for her was easy and she quickly made more friends. She said she thinks now that she definitely made the right decision.
A native Texan, Barbara was born in 1935 in Noonday, Texas, a small town just outside Tyler. Due to lack of employment opportunities in Noonday, she and her family moved to Houston when Barbara was five. Her father worked for Carnation Milk Company. Barbara attended George Washington Elementary School in the Heights. She later graduated from Reagan High School and occasionally took college courses in both business and art.
After graduating from Reagan, Barbara moved to the Allen House Apartments on Allen Parkway. She worked for many different businesses in downtown Houston, such as Bank of America, Superior Oil Company, Sysco Foods, which made her career both interesting and satisfying. She was able to travel and visited New York, England and 13 other countries across Europe.
Barbara has two living siblings: a brother living in Georgia and her younger brother, Paul, living in Sugar Land. Paul looks out for Barbara and the rest of the family. He is very happy about welcoming his youngest daughter’s baby into the world!
Barbara’s advice to others here is: “Be Happy!” She practices this advice by doing the things she enjoys, like taking trips and traveling. She recently took the Kemah trip, which she describes as “very relaxing” and says she “loved the Flying Dutchman restaurant, looking out big bay windows at the yachts and enjoying the view.” Barbara also loves to paint and has some of her paintings and supplies here. She attends Ascension Episcopal Church on Sunday and their Bible Study on Tuesday afternoon.
With her ever-positive attitude, Barbara says, “I’ve had a good life!” We are so lucky to welcome such a lovely, lively person to Treemont!
