Residents move to a senior independent living community with the desire to stay independent as long as possible. Thus, Treemont introduced the concept of“Independence Plus on our campus. Seniors who need help with activities of daily living can receive home health services in their apartment instead of moving to a licensed assisted living facility. Senior Allegiance is the “Plus” in Independence Plus.”
One key Senior Allegiance Program is Medication Management, and we are fortunate to have a caring and talented Medication Program Coordinator Cindy Harrell at the helm. Note: Cindy is now in charge of the Personal Assistance Program for Senior Allegiance. There are several levels of medication management. The most basic program is for a resident to be reminded twice daily to take their pills The more robust program involves the “management” of the program: prescription refills; taking vital signs; coordinating with doctor if there is an issue with the resident’s vital signs; delivery of the pharmacy prescription to the resident. The benefits of this more robust program is that that Senior Allegiance manages the communication between the physician and families as well as working with the pharmacist monthly when prescriptions are reordered to make sure there are no contraindications between the resident’s prescriptions.
Reporting to Assistant Director of Nurses Ana Vazquez, Cindy joined Senior Allegiance 3 years ago after following one of her work colleagues from Walgreens Pharmacy staff.
Cindy says, “I really enjoy working with the seniors. They are a lot of fun. Many of them really
know how to party. I have become the daughter some residents don’t have and I love to see the glow and smile on their faces when I enter the room. Some share things with me that just keep me smiling all day long. I love being able to provide and take care of the seniors.”
Previously Cindy worked for 23 years at Walgreens, rising from a cashier to pharmacy cashier, to Senior Pharmacy Technician with the Walgreens Pharmacy Staff, before retiring in 2015. Cindy is registered with the State Board of Pharmacy and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. As a native Houstonian, Cindy graduated from Jack Yates Senior High in 1989. She has been married twice, with the first marriage bringing a handsome son Trevilun, age 23, who gave her a beautiful 1.5 year old grandson. She reconnected with middle/high school friend Harold Robinson in 2010 and married on May 16, 2015. They enjoy traveling, deer hunting, camp outdoors, and going to the Country and Zydeco. Both have family in Louisiana. She has always dreamed of moving to San Diego with her brother is retired military for 25 years.
