Healthy Tips for Seniors: Treemonters, Protect Each Other. Stay Safe, Get Vaccinated

It is an understatement to say most of us have “Covid Fatigue.” We yearn to return to “normal.” We thought we were there, and then we encountered the delta variant, resulting in a spike in Covid19 cases in Houston. No one is immune from this disease.

The three COVID-19 Vaccines are a miraculous new tool to prevent infection. For those who get the Covid delta variant, the vaccinehow.mask.reduce.spread.of.covid19 has typically resulted in a mild case and largely kept people from being hospitalized. Pfizer-BioNTech, with full FDA approval, is 95% effective rate against COVID19, requiring 2 doses 3 weeks apart. Moderna, under review for full FDA approval, requires 2 doses 4 weeks apart. Johnson & Johnson COVID19 vaccine has approximately a 66.3% effective rate according to the CDC and requires only 1 dose. Treemont Health Care Center is administering free vaccines Tuesday, August 31st and is now an official vaccination site. Call Karina Walker at 713.975.1519 to sign up! The Treemont Community highly encourages residents, families, and employees protect one another by getting vaccinated. Please talk with your physician to discuss specific concerns with your health to make an informed decision.

It is critical to safeguard ourselves and our neighbors. Studies show the risk for exposure reduces with the use of a mask. As we begin Flu season and continue dealing with COVID, it is imperative that we continue to wear our mask and follow social distance. It is easy to have the urge to relax but we must keep doing our part. As activities continue in Independent Living, we must make sure that everyone in the activity is wearing a mask. This includes small gatherings of 4 playing bridge or RummiKube as well as those leaving Treemont to go to the doctor, the grocery store or for one of Rose’s Outdoor Bus Outings. We can only continue to open our community to activities and Outdoor BBQs if each resident and staff member individually does their part to safeguard each other. We are not yet out of the woods!

How to Properly Wear a Mask

If you have a mask, it’s important to understand how to wear it properly. It’s not a chin warmer! To be effective, it must be properly warn, how-to-properly-wear-a-maskas demonstrated in the graphic on the left. Please do not let your guard down. Consider the risk of exposure, if grandkids are back in school, playing sports, with a higher probability of bringing covid home. If you do see family members, spend as much time outdoors as possible. Stay masked when you are not eating. Collectively, we know how difficult this is and we are all making adjustments. If you return to Treemont and become sick with covid, we will have to return to stricter lock down measures. Please notify us if you are not well so we can test you.

Protect your Neighbor by Getting Vaccinated and Wearing a Mask!
