Senior Living Houston: Housekeeper Esther Renteria supports residents

The beauty of retirement living is that life is maintenance-free, with daily tasks such as housekeeping a task of the past, as this service is included in Treemont’s monthly rent. We are fortunate to have Esther Renteria tending to our residents’ apartments.  With her friendly demeanor and great work ethic, Esther is a valued employee.

Esther is one of the many long-tenured employees (31 years!) that support our residents. Esther is the housekeeper for many of our Building A residents. Her duties also include upkeep of common areas in the community. Each Treemont resident is assigned to a housekeeper to do weekly housekeeping in their apartment, as part of Treemont’s all-inclusive monthly senior apartment rental. This covers vacuuming, dusting, wiping down counters and cleaning the bathroom. Extra services include weekly change of bed linens

Meet Your Treemont Neighbor: Manuel Orapeza

by Jane Zimmerman, Treemont Resident

Is there a Doctor in the House?  Yes!

Newbie Resident, Dr. Manuel Oropeza, moved to Treemont March 19, 2019. When his daughter first mentioned Treemont, Manuel was not sure if he would like it, but now that he is here, he finds there are a variety of things to do; but most of all he likes the people!

Manuel was born in Venezuela; however, he was in the United States between 1979 and 1984, receiving his Masters in Radiological Sciences, and his Doctorate Fellowship in Nuclear Medicine from John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Manuel practiced medicine in Venezuela as the Director of the Institute of Nuclear Medicine at the University of Los Andes. He also was the Director of Nuclear Medicine in Paris, France in the Sorbonne.

Eight years ago, his wife succumbed to triple cancer. She left a wonderful family of three children, Manuel, Jr., and two daughters, Catherine and Erika.  His son, Manuel

Treemont Honors Residents' Rehab Accomplishments, Return to Independence

Treemont Honors Residents' Rehab Achievements, Return to Independence

Seniors main motivation for a move to a retirement community is to seek a more supportive environment, with meals, housekeeping, transportation to doctor’s appointments and shopping, activities, entertainment and an overall maintenance-free lifestyle. Seniors might be living in a home that is hard to maintain, especially after a spouse has passed. Mom might no longer drive and feel isolated — no longer able to get to church or play bridge or mah jongg with friends as she used to. It’s also a plus to have staff and fellow residents around to keep an eye on one another.

Because Treemont Retirement Community has multiple care levels on campus, there’s more peace of mind, knowing that if you have a health setback, you can get a helping hand through Treemont’s on premise home

JOIN US to “meet & greet” Dr. Nasiya Ahmed of Village Physicians. Dr. Ahmed recently joined the Treemont Family to offer her services as an on-site primary care physician specializing in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care. Dr. Ahmed will see residents through the entire continuum of care offered here at Treemont as well as Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital, then back to Treemont Independent Living or to Treemont Health Care Center if a rehab stay is needed. The idea is for your doctor to follow you wherever you go. For an on-site appointment at Treemont, contact Dr. Ahmed’s office at (832) 408-8575.

A key benefit of having Senior Allegiance as Treemont’s Preferred Provider Home Care agency is that this home health care company can arrange to have its patients seen by a doctor at Treemont. Senior Allegiance has long used Dr. Zaharia for Treemont doctor visits, with Senior Allegiance's Sheila Quia providing support for these visits. With a growing community, we are pleased to announce that Senior Allegiance has secured another outstandinig physician to do doctor visits on campus.

Meet Your Treemont Neighbor: Bobbie Fellers

by Jane Zimmerman, Treemont Resident

Pleasantly smiling resident Bobbie Fellers is a happy, satisfied Treemont keeper.  She and her husband Reverend Doctor John E. Fellers (Methodist) were both born in Houston and met at the same childhood church.  After growing up, they saw each other again, dated and married.  They had 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grand babies.  The family all lives close by.  John passed 12 years ago, and Bobbie moved into an apartment, then to Treemont, where she is very pleased!

Bobbie volunteered at church, supporting her husband in his ministry.  While they were at St. Paul’s Methodist church on Main Street here in Houston (next to the Museum of Fine Arts), Bobbie also had a travel agency.

Spotlight on Medicare Home Health Nurse Meredith Roubion

Posted by Lisa Witt on Nov 6, 2019 6:30:49 PM

Medicare Therapy Supports Houston Independent Living Residents

A key reason Senior Allegiance is on campus, is to provide an extra helping hand of support to Treemont residents so they can remain independent in their apartments. You might recognize Nurse Meredith Roubion, RN, BSN as she is a steady presence on the Treemont Campus. For our residents on Medicare Home Health, Meredith assesses their physical therapy regimen, identifies health problems and concerns, communicates with their physicians and interdisciplinary teams, initiates and continues their Plan of Correction and does patient education.

Meredith has been a nurse for 7 years, first at Senior Allegiance and then at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. “I had such a great experience at Senior Allegiance, I wanted to come back,” Meredith says. “Working with seniors is very rewarding. It brings me joy to make a difference in both the health care and personal life of the seniors I care for. I also love to learn from my senior patients!”

Are you aware that Medicare covers the cost of many of the services that allow you to remain active, especially if you have been hospitalized in the past year?

Meet Your Treemont Neighbor: Charles Stephens

by Jane Zimmerman, Treemont Resident

We have many residents at Treemont with talent and great happenings and achievements in their lives, but newbie Charles Stephens can claim fame in show business.  A talented singer and pianist, Charles was also a well-known name in radio in his home town Kansas City, Missouri, at KPRS Broadcasting Corp.; New York City and Washington D.C.  He was both a disc jockey and recording artist, appearing with his band, the Skylarks, in night clubs and other live gigs, like the small Madison Square Garden in NYC, where fans came to hear them and dance.

The Skylarks are all seniors now, and have lost touch, but Charles continues to play piano, though he no longer sings due to his recent open-heart surgery at the Michael E. DeBakey
