A Few Highlights from Treemont Assisted Living Houston May Programs

This post highlights five activities for seniors in May, from parties to student volunteer assistance to residents to musical performances to private parties at this assisted living Houston retirement community.

Kentucky Derby Day

Treemonters find every occasion to celebrate, beyond Christmas, New Year's, Thanksgiving and Easter. Residents enjoy socializing and Activities Director Aimee assisted_living_houston_residents_watching_kentucky_derbyDubuisson enjoys working with Executive Chef James to celebrate occasons such as Kentucky Derby Day. Aimee described the day as follows, " "It was all 'hats and spirits' worthy of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. Residents feasted on delicious food and even traditional 'Mint Juleps'. There was "off track betting" ($1 per draw of a horses' name).  The pre-race activities were viewed on two big-screen tvs (Activities Room and the Theater Room) across the hall from each other. Viewers visited, laughed, enjoyed the party atmosphere and then — the most thrilling 2 minutes of Horse Racing occurred. Even after the race, residents stayed, enjoying each others' company and visited.  A great day in horse racing at Treemont." This was the first Kentucky Derby Party in the NEW ACTIVITY ROOM and THEATER/MEDIA RM. Residents said it was the best party yet....but that is said about each party!

Volunteer Assistance to Residents.

Our retirement community in Houston, TX is fortunate to have the Tenney International School Children volunteer at Treemont. These student are exceptional students who come once a month to volunteer their services during the school year. They love delivering packages that have arrived for the residents and being of assistance to the activities-for-seniors-houston-tx-volunteersresidents.  They put together chairs that come in boxes, they go through large containers of unopened mail for residents with diminished vision, they'll keep what's important, throw what isn't (all under the direction of the resident) and file the important papers in folders. They put photos into albums.  Helping with electronic devices that need programing (cell phones, I-Pads, even computers) is always a big hit. hese kids have helped with gardening projects, they roll flatware in the dining room, they collate marketing packets and have helped with mass mailouts. hey distribute flyers to the residents for upcoming events. They do it all and we're always grateful for their generous time. They are always accompanied by their teacher, Beryl Levy, who gives as much of her time as the students do. The International Students and Mrs. Levy are always a welcome sight at Treemont.  This is the second year these students have generously donated their time and efforts to Treemont.

Musical Performances

The Deci-Belles are a popular monthly group that performs at Treemont. These ladies performed on Monday, 5/11/15 and they were adorable. The independent living four_assisted_living_houston_performersresidents had a great time. The performers bring a service dog with them and "Bear" loves the attention. He lays on the floor with his front paws crossed —such a gentleman. The Choir performed many favorite tunes (complete with Poodle Skirts).   The audience was delighted by the performance.   After the performance, "Bear" performed tricks and demonstrated what how a trained service dog should behave.   The audience loved it.

Paula's Garden Party.

Gardener and horticulturist extraordinaire hosted her annual Garden Party. This senior living Houston community boasts a gorgeous campus full of pine trees and foliage. It makes a great back drop for a BBQ or Garden Party. The flowers are beautiful thanks to Paula's attention. It was an overcast, gloomy day, but the beautiful garden brightened everyone's spirits. The Red Noses did too.Paulas_Garden_Party_assisted_living_houston
