Activities for Seniors Houston Assisted Living Treemont Sock Hop
Treemont residents enjoy life and each other. It is a thrill to observe the new friendships and bonds that form at Treemont Retirement Community. Activities Director Aimee Dubuisson has observed how much residents enjoy socializing with
one another and has placed a priority on creating opportunities to make that happen. The parties and activities for seniors go beyond the typical (or expected) Christmas, New Year, Valentine and Halloween events. Treemont hosts parties for Mardi Gras, the Kentucky Derby, a Summer Dance, October Fest among other occasions. The next big opportunity to socialize will be the Treemont “Sock Hop” on Saturday, August 22 from 6pm to 8pm.
The Sock Hop will be hosted by Second Baptist Church - Height Class Ministry, and will feature a DJ playing 50’s hits, decorations ofthe era, a Choir, and a fun agenda of activities. The Height Class Volunteers will also have a Hoola Hoop contest, Limbo Dancing, people on roller skates, in addition to dancing, with the residents to the tunes they remember. Poodle skirts, blue jeans (with the cuff rolled up), bobbie socks, peddle-pushers, penny loafers and pink and black clothing will be the attire for the evening. It's going to be too much fun!
Food and beverage is a big part of any Treemont celebration — especially when new Food Service Director James Renshaw is involved. Coke floats, small hamburgers (sliders) and French Fries will give authentic 50’s Malt-Shop-feeling to the party. Residents are brimming with anticipation and are so excited; some of the men have already chosen their 50’s outfits for the party. The decorations will be a huge surprise and some will be handmade by Treemont residents. The evening will transport everyone back to the “Happy Days” when they were teens.
Treemont wants to welcome all seniors and their families who are considering retirement living to stop by and experience the “Treemont Atmosphere.” Please RSVP to Aimee or Mariana at 713-783-6820 to reserve a place for you and your friends at the dance or email Aimee at Aimee@Treemont.com.
Often residents come to Treemont seeking a more supportive environment. But they still want to engage with their fellow residents and continue their lifelong activities. There are so many activity opportunities at Treemont, and they keep growing. For example, residents can now play Wii tennis, bowling, golf, water skiing, basketball and archery in the new Media Room. Treemont residents are also creating a choral group for those who still love to sing in a choir.
To supplement the scheduled, weekly live entertainment, residents play the piano in the foyer as spontaneous sing-a-longs erupt. This year Treemont residents formed a Gardening Angels Group and the resulting vegetables from the garden are morphed into gourmet meals by Chef James in his cooking class. Treemont also offers Bingo 4 times a week, daily bridge and board games, needlecrafts, creative writing, health and wellness seminars, daily exercise classes and much more.
