Finding the Right Senior Living Community

Executive Director Rodney: I’m often asked how to go about finding the right senior living community. Searching for the best retirement community can be emotional and stressful. It doesn’t have to be if you know what you’re looking for. Families are looking for peace-of-mind that their senior family member is settled in a safe environment, with caring staff, that encourages independence.

Admissions Director: Seniors and their adult children may be jugging several stressful issues associated with a move — like selling a home, feeling guilty about moving someone who doesn’t want to move, trying to figure out how to make it work financially and trying to determine which community is the right fit.

Executive Director Rodney: The #1 reason seniors make a move is they have experienced a health set back and now their family wants them to be in a more supportive environment. If the time has come, choose a community that will give you the Peace-of-Mind that seniors are watched over and given the support they need to enjoy independence and security.

Admissions Director:  I’d like to give a few tips to finding a great senior living community. My first suggestion is that you should find a campus that offers Extra Care Options, that includes a continuum of care: independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing care plus the option of home health care. Choose a community in which the senior does not have to move again when their care needs change.

Executive Director Rodney: Are they a well-established community with a great reputation? Find a retirement community that has long-tenured staff, as staff is key to resident happiness. Meet with the administrator, are they knowledgeable? Do they make you feel comfortable taking care of your family member?

Admissions Director: Find a community that recognizes that Socialization is also a key to resident happiness. Residents in senior living communities have an improved social network and enjoyment of life. They develop new friendships. Make sure the retirement community offers a robust range of activities. Mental and spiritual health is just as important as physical health. What sets Treemont apart is our long-tenured, caring staff. For staff, it is a calling to work with the elderly and help enrich their later years.
